Virtual Console Dreaming: The Forsaken 64 Update

Forsaken 64 by Acclaim Entertainment

I’ve never experienced Forsaken, but its awesome 90s box art and commercial are forever burned into my brain like radiation poisoning. It’s still the first thing I think of when I hear the word “forsaken” more than two decades later. That’s good advertising.

If this is your first time discovering Forsaken, it’s a first-person shooter with six degrees of movement (practically a dead genre at this point–think Descent). Nightdive (those cool kids I’m always talking about) actually released a remastered version of it in 2018 for modern consoles, but it’s always cool to have more ways to play old games. I’m very curious how it controls with a Nintendo 64 controller.

And, of course, I’m a sucker for all things that have split-screen multiplayer.

Forsaken 64 will be available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers on September 4th via the Mature 17+ launcher.

Here is my wish list for the service. Since the last update, I’ve added Mario Golf: Advance Tour. If we’re being honest, I thought I’d already included it–but the recent Mario draft on the Button Mash podcast inspired me to take a closer look and correct my oversight.

Thanks for reading.

It’s going to be a slow week at Tactical Reload as I take this opportunity to hang out with my family. I posted an “It’s a Sprint” yesterday covering the first set of September Game Pass departures, so if you game across consoles and are starving to read more of my stuff, check that out.

A few quick other bits of info that deserve your attention for the immediate future–Sony is showing off James Bond gameplay for the first time today and Silksong is out in less than 24 hours.

Until we meet again, go play something–or else.
