Virtual Console Dreaming: April 2025 SEGA Genesis Update

Earlier this evening, Nintendo announced they’re adding three new games to the Switch Online Genesis library:

-The legendary beat ‘em up with the banging soundtrack, Streets of Rage. I was a bit surprised this wasn’t already on there.

-An arcade shooter, Super Thunder Blade with “super scaling” (pretend 3D, think Space Harrier).  This honestly looks like a nightmare to play but I’ll try anything once.

-Lastly, the hilariously 90’s action side-scroller ESWAT: City Under Siege. It’s like you play as some kind of robot cop...

All three titles will be available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers on April 11th (most likely when you’re reading this).

Now for the moment you’ve actually been waiting for–my new and improved wish list!

Regular readers of Tactical Reload might notice it’s just a little bit longer than it used to be. That’s because, during the Switch 2 Direct last week, Nintendo announced that GameCube titles are coming to Switch Online. If something seems like it’s missing (like Wind Waker and F-Zero), it’s probably already been confirmed to be on the way.

I thought about trying to show restraint while compiling this list–but screw that. It’s my site, I love the GameCube, and it’s a notoriously expensive console to collect for. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for Dreamcast, Saturn, and DS titles next (and maybe Virtual Boy).

Earlier today, I posted my impressions of the Triple-i Initiative showcase (check the features tab, it’s right below this article). I also covered both of the recent Nintendo Directs. Hopefully, by this time next week, I’ll have a couple new (small) reviews up.

Happy Friday! I hope you get some time to enjoy yourself this weekend.
